Napoli defender Amir Rrahmani has unexpectedly announced his retirement from the Kosovo national team, sharply criticising the country's football federation leadership. The 32-year-old has ended his international career after ten years with the national side, making 66 appearances. Rrahmani has also worn the captain's armband for the past seven years.

The defender announced his decision on social media. According to Rrahmani, he will no longer represent Kosovo while the current leadership remains in charge of the Football Federation of Kosovo. The player said he had faced constant disagreements within the organisation for several years, as well as a lack of people capable of solving the team's problems.

“In response, I received constant and coordinated attacks for more than two years from those who were supposed to protect us. One day, justice will prevail,” Rrahmani wrote.

The footballer stressed that he had made the decision to preserve his integrity as captain and a professional player, as well as his own human values.

However, Rrahmani has not ruled out returning to the national team in the future. A comeback could be possible if there are major changes in the federation's leadership. Kosovo must now find a new captain and continue without one of the most experienced leaders in the team.
