In February of last year, Manchester City was suspected of breaching 115 financial fair play regulations by the Premier League. These violations were recorded between 2009 and 2018. The club's management denies all allegations, and the team is still awaiting the date of the first hearing.
In January of this year, Premier League Chief Executive Richard Masters informed a special parliamentary committee that a date had been set, but he refused to disclose it. In May, Sky News reported that the hearings would take place in the coming months.
According to available information, Manchester City could face penalties including title forfeitures, point deductions, fines, and even relegation. However, the Premier League has not provided any official comments on this matter.
Football finance expert Dr. Dan Plumley shared his opinion on the potential penalties and their timeline. Speaking to Instant Casinos, he stated:
"I don’t think the rumors about Manchester City's fines, potentially leading to exclusion or relegation from the Premier League, are sensationalist.
Considering the number and nature of the allegations, if any are proven, we could see significant fines and other penalties imposed on them.
I don't believe we will have a verdict before 2025. Hearings are scheduled for the fall, but from the Premier League's perspective, I think they would like to reach a decision by the end of next season.
If there is to be a penalty, the authorities would likely want it imposed at the start of the 2025/26 season, so I have a sense that the summer of 2025 will be a crucial time for this process."
During the period of the allegations from 2009 to 2018, Manchester City won the league title four times,
claimed the FA Cup twice, secured the League Cup four times, and won the Community Shield three times.
