Bodø/Glimt defeated Inter Milan 2–1 in the second leg of the UEFA Champions League and advanced to the Round of 16 of the tournament. In doing so, they also matched a remarkable historical feat.
Details: According to Opta, the Norwegian side became the first team since the 1971/72 season to win four European Cup/UEFA Champions League matches against clubs from England, Spain, Germany, Italy and France — while representing a league outside Europe’s top five.
The last team to achieve the same was Ajax in the 1971/72 campaign. Notably, the Dutch giants went on to lift the UEFA Champions League trophy that season.
In addition, Bodø/Glimt are the first Norwegian club since the 1987/88 season to progress from a two-legged Champions League play-off tie. Back then, Lillestrøm SK eliminated Linfield FC.
Reminder: On Wednesday, 25 February, Real Madrid will host Benfica in the second leg of their UEFA Champions League play-off tie. However, they will be without their star forward.
