Portugal head coach Roberto Martínez could be set to swap European football for the Middle East right after the conclusion of the 2026 World Cup.
Details: According to RMC Sport, the Spanish manager has already entered preliminary negotiations with Saudi side Al-Nassr. Martínez’s current contract with the Portuguese federation runs until the end of this World Cup cycle, making him an extremely attractive candidate for the club’s ambitious owners.
The Riyadh-based club’s management sees Martínez as their top choice to take over as head coach. In Saudi Arabia, expectations are high that the Spaniard’s wealth of international experience will help propel the team back to the top of the league.
The coach himself, for his part, appears open to the challenge of testing himself in the ambitious Pro League after his tenure with Portugal comes to an end.
If negotiations are successful and the move is made official, Roberto Martínez will once again be working side by side with Cristiano Ronaldo—this time on the club stage.
Reminder: Portugal’s midfield maestro set an all-time World Cup record in the match against DR Congo with a unique statistical feat.
