UEFA has its own stance regarding the controversial rule.

Details: According to RMC Sport, UEFA will not implement FIFA’s new regulation, widely known as the “Vinicius rule,” in the Champions League or other European club competitions.

The rule, already in effect for the 2026 World Cup, stipulates that a player can be sent off if they deliberately cover their mouth while speaking to an opponent or match officials.

The decision by the European football governing body means such incidents will not automatically result in a red card during UEFA competitions. Therefore, the regulations for the Champions League, Europa League, and Conference League will remain unchanged.

This divergence in rule interpretation between FIFA and UEFA has already sparked lively debate within the football community, as identical situations could now be judged differently depending on the tournament.
