Super Eagles assistant coach Daniel Ogunmodede is happy with the home-based Eagles' 0-0 tie against Ghana in the first round of the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN) qualifiers. The game, which took place on December 22 at the Accra Sports Stadium, added to the long-standing rivalry between the two West African soccer teams.
Ogunmodede pointed out how important this result is, especially for Nigerian football and the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL).
"I'm happy with the draw," Ogunmodede said after the game. "Now, it's up to us to work on qualifying for the CHAN."
He mentioned that qualifying would boost the NPFL's reputation, provide players and local coaches with opportunities to compete internationally, and enhance the overall standard of Nigerian football.
The Super Eagles B team will face the Black Stars at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo on Saturday, December 28, for a crucial second-leg match.
The victor of this match will guarantee a spot in the postponed 2024 CHAN, which will take place from February 1–28, 2025, throughout Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda.
Ogunmodede believes that this match is a crucial chance for the team to demonstrate their determination and talent on an international stage.
In order to secure their place in the esteemed biannual event, the Super Eagles B squad will try to build on their impressive defensive performance in the first leg, with the help of local supporters and a home advantage.
