The Super Eagles B team held their ground in a goalless draw against Ghana in the first leg of the CHAN 2024 qualifying playoff at Accra Sports Stadium. Despite a shaky start, head coach Daniel Ogunmodede is optimistic about his team’s chances in the return leg at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium on Saturday.
“I am satisfied with the draw. Now it is for us to qualify for the CHAN,” Ogunmodede remarked during his post-match press conference. “Qualification will add more value to our league, the players, and the indigenous coaches. We had a shaky first half, but we improved after the restart.”
Meanwhile, Ghana’s coach, Dramani Draman, expressed satisfaction with his team’s defensive discipline. “I think it was a very tight game, and we controlled a greater part of it. We were lucky not to have conceded because in such games you can easily concede,” Draman stated.
The overall victor will earn a berth in the 2024 CHAN, which will be held from February 1–28, 2025, in Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda. As the Super Eagles want to establish themselves on the European scene, all eyes are now on the second leg.
