The 18 teams who will play from February 1 to February 28, 2025, were finalized on Sunday after the second round of CHAN 2024 qualifiers. The competition this year, which is being co-hosted by Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania, is expected to include exciting matches with a focus on local talent.
While Uganda secured its spot through on-field performance, Kenya and Tanzania qualified despite setbacks in the qualifiers, with their participation hinging on infrastructural readiness. As the sole North African representative, Morocco eyes a third CHAN title, fielding a U24 squad led by Tarik Sektioui after automatically advancing due to opponent withdrawals.
Central Africa had some unexpected results. The Central African Republic knocked out Cameroon by scoring more goals in away matches. At the same time, DR Congo proved their strength again with a clear win against Chad.
Senegal, the current champions, showed their power by beating Liberia. Teams with experience in the CHAN tournament, like Mauritania, Burkina Faso, Niger, and Guinea, are now part of an exciting mix of new and experienced teams.
