Arteta turns to NASA! Arsenal seek space-age solution to nightmare ACL injuries
Mikel Arteta is taking Arsenal's fight against injuries to an entirely new level — quite literally into space.
Details: According to Daily Mail Sport, Arsenal have consulted NASA specialists in an extraordinary attempt to reduce injuries and improve rehabilitation, particularly for players suffering anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) damage. The London club hopes to apply knowledge gained from years of research into the effects of reduced gravity on the human body.
NASA has conducted extensive studies into how reduced gravity causes muscle atrophy and loss of bone density. Arsenal believe these findings could help their medical staff understand precisely how much weight injured footballers should bear during different stages of recovery.
The research could also provide valuable insights into when players should resume running, how quickly physical loads should increase and whether their bodies are responding properly to rehabilitation exercises. According to the report, Arsenal have additionally consulted Google on data analysis and Apple on wearable technology.
It's worth noting that Arsenal have suffered several serious ACL injuries in recent years. Jurrien Timber ruptured the ligament during his Premier League debut in August 2023, while Gabriel Jesus suffered the same injury in January 2025.
