Three years?! Mourinho shocks Real Madrid fans with his answer about building the perfect team

Jose Mourinho has delivered a surprising answer about the future of Real Madrid! Despite already spending four months in charge of the Spanish giants, the Portuguese manager believes he needs three full seasons to build his ideal team. His comments have sparked fresh debate about the club's long-term ambitions.

Details: Speaking at a press conference on November 3 ahead of the Champions League encounter with AEK Athens, Mourinho was asked how much time he needed to create the perfect Real Madrid. His answer was remarkably direct: three years, or three seasons. The Portuguese coach stressed that his current squad possesses enormous potential but has not won anything yet.

Mourinho returned to Real Madrid in June 2026, signing a contract until the summer of 2029. His first spell between 2010 and 2013 brought three major trophies, including the Spanish league title, but he failed to win the Champions League with Los Blancos.

The experienced manager refused to compare his current players with the squad from his previous spell. He explained that football teams improve through training, matches and accumulated experience rather than one dramatic turning point. Mourinho also said that he is happy with the players available to him.

For now, his immediate priority is the Champions League trip to Athens. Real Madrid have collected nine points in the competition, but Mourinho insists qualification is not yet secured. His three-season timeline suggests that the Special One sees the project as a gradual rebuild rather than an overnight transformation.

Reminder: José Mourinho officially returned to Real Madrid in June 2026 on a three-season contract.
