Despite Robert Lewandowski enjoying an impressive goal-scoring season, speculation about the Barcelona striker’s future continues.
Details. There were previous rumors suggesting that Lewandowski’s current contract expires this summer, but it includes a clause that automatically extends it by one year if certain conditions are met.
According to Sport, Lewandowski’s deal with Barcelona runs until 2026, meaning he is set to stay for at least another season. However, the club had the option to unilaterally terminate the Polish striker’s contract this summer if he played in fewer than 55% of Barcelona’s official matches this season.
At the moment, Lewandowski has reached 50.8%, and just three more appearances would push him past the 55% threshold. This means that if Barcelona wants to retain the option to shorten the Pole’s stay at the club by 12 months, they would have to ensure he plays no more than two more matches.
Reminder. The Polish forward, who will turn 37 in August, has netted 30 goals in 32 matches across all competitions, with his most recent strike securing a victory against Alavés last weekend.
Earlier, it was reported that Dani Olmo has returned to training following a muscle injury.
