Didier Deschamps is ready to put his faith in youth and impressive form as he finalizes France's goalkeeping lineup for the upcoming World Cup.
Details: According to Onze Mondial, Lens goalkeeper Robin Risser, who delivered an outstanding season, will be included in the 26-man squad traveling to the tournament. This decision stands out as one of the few surprises in a roster that will otherwise closely mirror the squad called up in March.
The main intrigue revolved around who would claim the third goalkeeper spot alongside Mike Maignan and Brice Samba. Despite being called up in March, PSG's Lucas Chevalier did not make the final squad for the North American World Cup.
Other candidates considered included West Ham's Alphonse Areola, who has seen little game time since January, and Jean Butez from Como, but the nod ultimately went to the Lens shot-stopper.
It's worth noting that Risser featured in 37 matches for Lens this season, keeping 12 clean sheets. He has never been called up to the French national team before.
Reminder: Scientists urge FIFA to take further measures to protect players.
