Last season, they already tried to return to Italy's top flight, but ended up sixth with a disappointing playoff run.
This time around, Alessio Dionisi and his squad came dangerously close to a complete failure. The tournament rules helped, along with a late push: after losing three out of four matches, they beat Frosinone and drew with Carrarese. That was just enough to secure eighth place—which, in Serie B, is still enough for a playoff spot.
