Lionel Messi keeps rewriting football history, but Inter Miami still cannot get back to winning ways.

Details: Inter Miami suffered a 2-1 home defeat to Toronto FC in the MLS regular season. The visitors broke the deadlock in the 59th minute through Josh Sargent, and just three minutes later Derrick Etienne Jr. doubled Toronto's advantage.

Inter Miami desperately tried to rescue the match, and Messi gave the hosts hope in the 82nd minute. The Argentine received the ball near the penalty area and found the net to reduce the deficit to 1-2.

The goal became the 923rd official strike of Messi's senior career for club and country. However, the hosts were unable to complete the comeback in the remaining minutes, and Toronto held on to claim all three points.

The defeat extended Inter Miami's winless run to five matches in all competitions. During that stretch, the Florida side have recorded one draw and four defeats, including losses to Monterrey, León, Nashville and now Toronto.

It is worth noting that Messi has now scored 14 goals in the current MLS season. The Argentine has also reached 64 goals in 71 appearances for Inter Miami.
