Derby County broke their long losing streak in early March by defeating Blackburn (2-1) at home. This victory was the first for John Estas as head coach and allowed the team to breathe a little after 13 matches without a win (10 losses and 3 draws). Moreover, it started a new series, this time a winning one.
In the last round, the Rams defeated Plymouth away with a score of 3-2, marking their third consecutive Championship victory. As a result, the nine points gained significantly improved their standings. They are now two points away from the safe 21st place, although every team in the lower part of the table still has a chance of survival.
Preston hosted Portsmouth in the last round and secured a 2-1 victory. Before that, the team went five rounds without a win in the Championship - drawing three times and losing twice. This poor run pushed the team down to 14th place in the standings.
Nevertheless, the club has no serious concerns - they have a comfortable nine-point buffer from the relegation zone, and it would take some doing to squander such a cushion. However, their away form is not impressive: three defeats in the last five away matches with only one victory.
