A highly controversial incident occurred in the La Liga matchday 11 clash between Racing Santander and Real Madrid—one that is sure to become one of the main talking points after the final whistle.
In the 10th minute, referee Jose Luis Munuera Montero awarded a penalty to the visitors. The decision followed a collision between Matteo Prati and Kylian Mbappe inside the Racing penalty area. The Frenchman went to ground, and the referee pointed to the spot without hesitation.
However, video replays raised plenty of questions about the decision. Some angles suggest that Mbappe may have exaggerated the impact of the contact or even initiated the fall himself. At the same time, it is impossible to say definitively that the forward dived—the incident remains highly debatable.
Despite the controversy, the referee's decision stood. Mbappe himself stepped up and confidently converted the spot-kick. The goal was already the French forward's 12th in the current La Liga campaign.
