Can Begraoui answer Barbero? Estoril vs Arouca prediction - 07.09.2026
On Monday, September 7, Estoril Praia will host Arouca at Estádio António Coimbra da Mota in the fifth round of the Portuguese Primeira Liga. Kick-off is scheduled for 20:15 local time. The teams approach this meeting from completely different positions: Estoril are 17th with just one point, while Arouca sit third after collecting nine points from their opening four matches.

Estoril: Begraoui remains the main source of goals
Vasco Matos has endured a difficult start since taking charge of Estoril in the summer. His team opened the season with a 1-1 draw against Famalicão before losing 0-2 to Nacional, 0-2 to Rio Ave and 1-2 away to Benfica. That leaves the Canaries with two goals scored and seven conceded after four rounds.
There was at least an encouraging response at Estádio da Luz. Estoril remained in the game against Benfica and Yanis Begraoui reduced the deficit in the 82nd minute. The Moroccan striker has now scored both of Estoril's league goals this season, having also found the net against Famalicão on the opening weekend. That makes him the obvious focal point for a team still searching for greater attacking consistency.
Matos also changed the structure against Benfica, using a 3-4-3 with Joel Robles behind Stelios Andreou, Ferro and Ismael Sierra. Ricard Sánchez and Fernando Medrano operated on the flanks, with Xeka and Antef Tsoungui in midfield, while André Lacximicant, João Carvalho and Begraoui formed the front three. Jordan Holsgrove, who had previously been dealing with a muscle problem, returned from the bench in Lisbon.
Estoril have also been active in the final days of the market. Axel Camblan and Milan Robin were among the late arrivals, while several additional players were registered before the latest squad deadline. That gives Matos more options, although the core of the XI that competed well against Benfica remains the most logical starting point for Monday's match.
Arouca: a flying start built around Barbero and a stable structure
Arouca's opening month has been far more convincing. Vasco Seabra's side started with a 1-0 away victory over Vitória de Guimarães, crushed Moreirense 4-0, lost 0-2 at defending champions Porto and immediately responded by beating Marítimo 2-1. Their record stands at three wins from four, seven goals scored and only three conceded.
Iván Barbero has been central to that start. The striker scored the winner against Vitória, was on target in the 4-0 victory over Moreirense and then headed home the decisive goal against Marítimo. Espen van Ee also scored in that latest victory, highlighting the threat Arouca can provide from midfield as well as through their centre-forward.
Seabra has relied on a stable 4-2-3-1. Against Marítimo, Ignacio de Arruabarrena started in goal, with Tiago Esgaio, Javi Sánchez, José Fontán and Orest Lebedenko in defence. Taichi Fukui and Van Ee formed the double pivot, while Alfonso Trezza, Pablo Gozálbez and Nabil Djouahra supported Barbero. Miguel Puche remains the main fitness concern after his knee problem, while recently registered Gabriel Rukavina gives Seabra an additional squad option.

At the same time, keeping Arouca out looks extremely difficult. Seabra's team have started the season with confidence, Barbero is already producing regularly and players such as Djouahra, Gozálbez and Van Ee give the visitors several different routes to goal.
The head-to-head trend is also striking. The last four league encounters have all seen both sides score, including last season's 4-3 win for Estoril and Arouca's 3-2 victory in the reverse fixture. With Estoril under pressure to finally win and Arouca arriving in excellent attacking form, another match with chances at both ends looks like the best option.
