Liverpool's hesitation to renew Mohamed Salah's contract, which ends at the end of this season, has puzzled fans and experts. Salah's recent comment, "It's almost December, and I haven't gotten an offer yet—maybe I'm closer to leaving than staying," has stirred rumors about his future at Anfield.
TBR Football claims that the planned contract duration is one of the main obstacles to discussions. Salah is allegedly looking for a contract of at least two years, with the possibility of an extension dependent on performance, when he turns 33 next summer. The management of Liverpool is hesitant to commit older players to long-term contracts, though.
The club is also concerned about Salah’s substantial weekly salary of over £350,000, despite his continued excellence under new manager Arne Slot. While both parties acknowledge Salah’s value, they remain far from resolving key issues.
With 10 Premier League goals this season, Salah trails only Erling Haaland. Yet, Liverpool’s caution suggests they prioritize sustainability over sentiment in shaping their future.
