The summer transfer window could have closed before the season, but a Spanish giant intervened
The top European leagues now have a single date for the end of the transfer window, and in the past summer window it was 30 August. As it turned out, the window could have closed earlier, but because of one club it did not happen.
According to the EPL Index website, the Premier League took the initiative to have the window close on 15 August - a day before the start of the new season. This, it is believed, would have prevented the leakage of key players.
Representatives of the European Club Association were also not against it, but La Liga soon pulled out of the arrangement under pressure from Barcelona due to financial problems at the club that prevented the Blaugrana from finalising deals in time.
Despite this, the ECA still intend to make the scheme a reality in the next transfer windows to end the chaos in the market after the start of the championship.
