The Champions League round of 16 match in Bergamo ended in a spectacular 6-1 victory for Bayern, but the Munich giants’ joy was dampened by a true injury epidemic. No fewer than three players—Alphonso Davies, Jonas Urbig, and Jamal Musiala—suffered injuries of varying severity and have been sidelined.
Details: The Munich club reports that Alphonso Davies received the most concerning diagnosis: the Canadian defender has been diagnosed with a torn muscle in his right thigh. Considering he had only just returned to full training, this recurrence could keep him out for an extended period at the most crucial phase of the season.
The problems didn’t spare the goalkeeper position either. Young Jonas Urbig, who stepped in for the injured Neuer, suffered a concussion. According to safety protocols, the keeper will require a full rest period and a gradual return to training, leaving Bayern’s goalkeeping situation uncertain ahead of their upcoming fixtures.
The third casualty is attacking leader Jamal Musiala. The midfielder had an acute reaction to an old ankle injury sustained last summer. Persistent pain forced Jamal off before the final whistle, and now medical staff insist on a break to prevent chronic complications. All three players are heading to the treatment room and will definitely miss Bayern’s upcoming games.
It’s worth noting that the return leg against Atalanta is scheduled for exactly one week from now, on March 18 at 21:00 Central European Time. It’s highly unlikely any of these players will be available to help Munich in that crucial tie.
Reminder: Real are ready to spend big on a Bayern star, as Florentino Pérez dreams of pairing Olise and Mbappé.
