Bayern Munich's emphatic 6-1 victory over Atalanta could have unexpected and extremely serious consequences for the German giants.
Details: According to Diario Sport, UEFA has officially launched an investigation into Joshua Kimmich and Michael Olise on suspicion of deliberately picking up yellow cards. The incident occurred late in the match in Bergamo, when the outcome was already beyond doubt, prompting the disciplinary committee to suspect that the players were trying to "wipe the slate clean" before the next round.
Both players were one booking away from suspension, and their cautions automatically rule them out of the return leg at the Allianz Arena. However, according to Article 15.1 of the UEFA Disciplinary Code, if it is proven that the cards were received intentionally, the punishment could be increased to a two-match ban. This means Bayern's key players risk missing not only the formality against the Italians, but also the crucial first leg of the Champions League quarter-finals.
It should be noted that the second leg of the Champions League round of 16 between Bayern and Atalanta will take place on Wednesday, March 18, at 21:00 Central European Time.
Reminder: Bayern announced the loss of three players following the Champions League match against Atalanta.
