Bayern Munich head coach Vincent Kompany has shed light on the critical goalkeeper situation ahead of tomorrow's Champions League clash against Atalanta. The main question—who will guard the net—remains unresolved and depends entirely on the medical team's verdict.
Details: At the pre-match press conference, Bayern's head coach Vincent Kompany confirmed that the main candidates have returned to training, but their readiness is still in doubt:
"I'm glad that Neuer is back training with the team, and Urbig was able to train as usual. But the decision will be purely medical. If everything goes according to plan, Jonas Urbig will start. Otherwise, we'll have to look for another solution."
When journalists asked directly whether that "other solution" would be 16-year-old Leonard Prescott, Kompany answered succinctly and firmly: "Yes."
This means Bayern are just one medical check-up away from a historic and extremely risky move. If Urbig isn't fit to play the full 90 minutes, the young Prescott will be tasked with protecting the net against Atalanta's attacking force.
It's worth noting that the return leg between Bayern and Atalanta will take place tomorrow, March 18th, at 21:00 Central European Time.
Reminder: 16-year-old Bayern Munich goalkeeper Leonard Prescott could break two records if he makes his Champions League debut.
