RIP. Legendary cricketer Sir Garfield Sobers passes away

Details: At the age of 89, legendary West Indies player Sir Garfield Sobers has passed away—universally regarded as one of the greatest all-rounders in the history of the sport.
Sobers represented the West Indies national team from 1954 to 1974, playing 93 Test matches. Over his illustrious career, he scored 8,032 runs and took 235 wickets, cementing his place as one of cricket’s brightest stars.
In 1968, while playing for Nottinghamshire in England, Sobers etched his name in history as the first player ever to hit all six balls of a single over for six, smashing six consecutive sixes in a first-class match—a feat that remains one of the sport’s most iconic achievements.
Throughout his first-class career, Sir Garfield amassed 28,314 runs, with 7,041 of those coming for Nottinghamshire. In addition to his outstanding batting and bowling, he was renowned for his brilliant fielding skills.
From 1965 to 1972, Sobers captained the West Indies, and in 1970, he led the Rest of the World XI during their famous tour of England.
The death of Sir Garfield Sobers is a monumental loss for international sport. His achievements and contributions to cricket will forever remain a part of the game’s history.
