After Euro 2024, Romania's national team unexpectedly parted ways with head coach Edward Iordănescu, who decided not to renew his contract with the country's Football Federation.

According to leading insider Emanuel Roșu, the Romanian Football Federation has already selected a new head coach. The legendary Mircea Lucescu will take on the role. Negotiations with him lasted about three hours, and the parties ultimately reached an agreement.

A press conference has been scheduled for tomorrow to announce the signing of a two-year contract with Lucescu.

This appointment will make Lucescu the oldest coach in the history of national teams, as he turned 79 last month.

Lucescu previously managed Romania's national team from 1981 to 1986. At the club level, he achieved the greatest success with Shakhtar Donetsk, winning the 2008/09 UEFA Cup. Lucescu has also coached Dynamo Kyiv, Galatasaray, the Turkish national team, Beşiktaş, Inter, Brescia, Pisa, Dinamo Bucharest, and Rapid Bucharest.

Recall that at Euro 2024 Romania made it to the 1/8 finals, but there lost to the Netherlands.
