The coach who created a sensational Iceland has taken charge of a European team

The Republic of Ireland, left without a head coach after failing to qualify for Euro 2024, has announced the appointment of a new manager.
The "Green Army" will now be led by Icelandic manager Heimir Hallgrímsson. He has signed a contract until the summer of 2026.
Hallgrímsson's most recent position was with the Jamaica national team. However, he is best known in Europe for his work with the Iceland national team, which he led to the quarterfinals of Euro 2016 and the 2018 World Cup.
In the Euro 2024 qualifiers, Ireland finished fourth in their group, behind France, the Netherlands, and Greece, leading to Martin O'Neill's dismissal.
In September, the Irish team will begin their campaign in UEFA Nations League B, where their group stage opponents will be England, Greece, and Finland.
