The memory of Laura will forever live on in the hearts of biathlon fans.
Details: Today, it was announced that the German Ski Federation (DSV) has decided to introduce an award named after the legendary German biathlete Laura Dahlmeier, who tragically lost her life in the mountains.
It is reported that the federation consulted with Laura's parents, who gave their blessing for the creation of this award in memory of their daughter.
This prize will be presented to young talents in winter sports.
“We wanted to take the necessary time to find the best way to honor Laura’s memory for years to come — both as an outstanding athlete and as an extraordinary person,” said DSV board member Stefan Schwarzbach.
Laura Dahlmeier was a two-time Olympic champion and a seven-time world champion in biathlon. At the 2017 World Championships in Hochfilzen, she made history by winning five gold medals. At the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang, she clinched two gold medals in the sprint and pursuit, as well as a bronze in the individual race. In 2013, she was named Germany’s best young athlete, and in 2017, she was recognized as the country’s top athlete among adults.
