The second leg of the Champions League quarter-final ended in a sensational scandal.
Details: After the final whistle, Barcelona leader Raphinha couldn't contain his emotions, accusing the referees of bias.
“We were simply robbed. It's tough to accept that we have to put in three times more effort than usual just to win a match in these conditions,” the Brazilian declared.
Raphinha's words sparked a fierce reaction in the Atlético camp. Goalkeeper Juan Musso hit back at the winger's accusations, stressing the fairness of the result.
“You simply have no right to talk about being robbed. You're making it sound like there were three penalties or four red cards. We won on the pitch, taking the first leg 2-0. A last-man foul is a straight red in football—there's nothing to discuss here,” the Madrid keeper snapped.
Atlético captain Koke tried to be more diplomatic, but also disagreed with his opponent's claims.
“Raphinha said it was a robbery? That's his opinion, I respect it, but I don't share it. We didn't steal anything. The sending-off was clear. But I respect his right to say what he feels after a defeat,” the Spaniard summed up.
It's worth noting that despite Barcelona's 2-1 win in Madrid, Atlético advanced on aggregate (2-3).
Reminder: An Atlético player suffered a serious nose injury.
