Platense in Advanced Talks With Kily González Ahead of Copa Libertadores Debut

Fresh off a historic league title and their first-ever Copa Libertadores qualification, Platense is moving quickly to appoint a new head coach. Following the sudden resignation of coaching duo Favio Orsi and Sergio Gómez just weeks after lifting the trophy, the club has turned to Cristian “Kily” González as its top choice, according to TyC Sports.
Talks with the former Unión de Santa Fe manager are reportedly in an advanced stage, with a contract potentially running through December 2026. González has been a free agent since April and is viewed as a strong candidate to guide the team through its most ambitious chapter yet.
On June 1, Platense stunned Argentine football by defeating Huracán 1-0 in the Torneo Apertura final in Santiago del Estero, with a goal from Guido Mainero securing the club’s first top-flight title. The victory not only brought silverware but also a ticket to the 2026 Copa Libertadores, marking the club’s debut on the continental stage.
The appointment of a new manager is now seen as critical. Platense’s board is seeking a leader capable of building on recent success while steering the team through its Libertadores journey. With his international experience and managerial potential, Kily González represents a long-term vision—and possibly the next defining figure in the club’s rise.
