On February 27, 1977, a landmark event occurred in Argentine and world football. On this day, one of the greatest footballers of all time, Diego Armando Maradona, made his debut for the Argentina national team.

At the age of 16, Maradona played in a friendly match against Hungary. This came four months after the gifted player's debut at the professional level for the Argentinos Juniors team.

Subsequently, Maradona reached great heights in football, becoming one of the brightest players in the history of the sport. Together with the national team, the "Golden Boy" won the 1986 FIFA World Cup in Mexico. During that World Cup, the Argentine star famously scored a goal with his hand against England. He famously referred to this goal as the "Hand of God," which became part of football folklore.

In 1990, the Albiceleste, with Maradona in the squad, lost in the final of the World Cup in Italy, settling for silver medals. In total, Diego Armando played 91 matches for the national team, scoring 34 goals.

Maradona passed away on November 25, 2020, in Buenos Aires at the age of 60, which marked one of the greatest tragedies for the world of football.
