Hansi Flick has identified another major piece for Barcelona's defence.

Details: According to El Nacional, Barcelona have placed Borussia Dortmund centre-back Nico Schlotterbeck high on their list of defensive targets. Hansi Flick is reportedly pushing for the German international and sees him as an ideal partner for Pau Cubarsí at the heart of the Catalans' back line.

The report claims that Schlotterbeck's new agreement with Borussia Dortmund contains a release clause worth around €60 million. The 26-year-old extended his contract with the German club in April 2026, with the deal officially running until the summer of 2031.

Barcelona could face serious competition if they decide to make a move. El Nacional names Chelsea, Manchester City, Liverpool and Real Madrid among the major European clubs that have also been linked with the defender. Flick, however, is said to consider Schlotterbeck particularly suitable for his system because of his left foot, ability to build attacks from defence and experience at the highest level.

It is worth noting that Schlotterbeck has played for Borussia Dortmund since 2022. Transfermarkt currently values the German centre-back at €55 million. He has recently been recovering from a medial ankle ligament injury suffered at the 2026 World Cup and returned to individual training in early September.

Reminder: €50m for Flick. Barcelona find their midfielder in Germany
