Worst goalless starts in Premier League history — and where Tottenham rank
Tottenham have entered one of the most unwanted rankings in Premier League history.
Details: After the 0-0 draw with Everton, Roberto De Zerbi's side have now failed to score in each of their opening four Premier League matches of the 2026/27 season. Spurs previously lost 3-0 to Brentford and 2-0 to Newcastle United before consecutive goalless draws against Nottingham Forest and Everton.
Tottenham are only the sixth team in Premier League history to begin a season with four consecutive matches without scoring. For Spurs themselves, this is unprecedented: never before had they gone through their first four league fixtures of a campaign without finding the net.
- 1. Crystal Palace, 2017/18 — 7 opening Premier League matches without a goal. Their first goal finally arrived in the eighth game against Chelsea.
- =2. Sheffield Wednesday, 1993/94 — 4 matches. Mark Bright ended the drought during the fifth game against Chelsea.
- =2. Newcastle United, 2005/06 — 4 matches. Charles N'Zogbia scored their first goal in the fifth round against Fulham.
- =2. Swansea City, 2011/12 — 4 matches. Scott Sinclair opened their account from the penalty spot in match five against West Brom.
- =2. Aston Villa, 2025/26 — 4 matches. Matty Cash finally scored in the fifth league fixture against Sunderland.

That leaves Tottenham joint-second in the all-time Premier League ranking for the longest goalless start to a season. Crystal Palace's seven-match nightmare from 2017/18 remains the clear record. Spurs' next chance to end the drought in the league comes against Aston Villa on September 19. Interestingly, all five previous teams to reach at least four opening matches without scoring avoided relegation and ultimately finished in the top 11; Aston Villa even finished fourth in 2025/26.
