Official! Borussia have sacked their coach
Borussia Mönchengladbach’s disastrous start to the Bundesliga season has cost Eugen Polanski his job.
Details: Borussia Mönchengladbach have officially parted ways with head coach Eugen Polanski with immediate effect. The decision was announced on Sunday, one day after a crushing 5-0 defeat away to Freiburg left the Foals without a single point after the opening three Bundesliga rounds.
The club’s head of sport, Rouven Schröder, explained that despite a positive pre-season and some encouraging signs, the team failed to produce the required results. Recent performances convinced the management that a change was necessary. Assistant coach Tobias Trulsen has also left the club.
Gladbach began the campaign with a 3-0 defeat to RB Leipzig, then lost 4-3 to promoted Elversberg before suffering another heavy blow against Freiburg. Those results left Borussia at the bottom of the Bundesliga table.
Former Mainz head coach Jan-Moritz Lichte has been placed in temporary charge of the first team. His first task will be to prepare Borussia for their next Bundesliga fixture at home against Mainz.
It is worth noting that Polanski initially took charge on an interim basis in 2025 before being appointed permanently in November. He guided Borussia Mönchengladbach to 12th place in the 2025/26 Bundesliga season and recorded nine wins and ten draws in 34 league matches as head coach.
