The saga continues! Álvarez will miss Atlético's match. Why?
Julián Álvarez's turbulent start to the season has taken another unexpected turn.
Details: Atlético Madrid forward Julián Álvarez has been left out of Diego Simeone's squad for today's La Liga match away to Real Sociedad. The club confirmed that the Argentine suffered a muscular overload during Saturday's final training session and was forced to leave the workout early. After the necessary medical tests, Atlético's medical staff decided that the striker would not travel to San Sebastián and ruled him out of the game.
The setback comes only a few days after Álvarez returned to Atlético's starting lineup in the Champions League clash with Liverpool at Anfield. The 26-year-old played the full match as Simeone's side suffered a 2-1 defeat.
His condition had already caused concern on Saturday when he left the final part of training while Simeone was working on the tactical plan for the trip to Anoeta. At that stage, Atlético had not issued a medical diagnosis and his availability remained uncertain.
Those doubts have now been removed: Álvarez will not feature against Real Sociedad. The absence is another problem for Atlético as they try to bounce back after consecutive defeats to Athletic Bilbao in La Liga and Liverpool in Europe.
It is worth noting that Álvarez remains under contract with Atlético Madrid until June 2030. Transfermarkt currently estimates the Argentine forward's market value at €100 million.
Reminder: Warning sign for Atlético: Álvarez leaves training early ahead of Real Sociedad clash
