Recently, Crystal Palace officially changed ownership, with John Textor leaving the club. However, this move was not enough to save the Eagles from UEFA sanctions.
Details: The main governing body of European football announced that, due to Lyon being admitted to the Europa League following a decision by the French financial commission, Crystal Palace, as of March 1, 2025, did not meet the multi-club ownership criteria.
As a result, they are not eligible to compete in the Europa League but will take part in the Conference League instead. Crystal Palace, holders of the FA Cup, will play in Europe's third-tier competition rather than the continent's second most prestigious tournament.
At the time this news was published, the Eagles had not issued any statement on the situation, but they retain the right to appeal UEFA's decision to the Court of Arbitration for Sport in Lausanne.
Reminder: Crystal Palace has become the third club in this European campaign to fall foul of the multi-ownership rule. However, they are more fortunate than Ireland's Drogheda and Slovakia's DAC, both of whom were completely excluded from European competitions. The Irish club also attempted to appeal the decision to CAS, but to no avail.
