Newcastle player becomes first Briton in Brazilian grandee's history

Brazil's São Paulo will celebrate 95 years since the club was founded in January, and only now has one of the giants of Latin American football decided to sign a player from Great Britain.
Albeit on loan. Northern Ireland player Jamal Lewis has gone to São Paulo from Newcastle until July 2025, becoming the first Briton in the ranks of a Latin American club. The Premier League club's press office reports that São Paulo hold a buyout option.
Since moving from Norwich to the Forties in September 2020, the 26-year-old left-back has struggled to get game time at his new club and spent last season also on loan, but closer, namely Watford.
‘When I heard about this opportunity I immediately told my agent I wanted to come to Brazil,’ Lewis said. ‘It's a great honour to play for a giant like São Paulo and to become the first British player in the club's history.
