Manchester City is still awaiting a decision on the case of numerous breaches of financial fair play rules, and as former club financial advisor Stefan Borson claims, if the verdict is delayed until the end of summer, it could be a worrying sign for the "Citizens".
Recall, the Premier League accused Man City of 115 potential breaches of financial rules, including incorrect reporting of sponsorship revenue, payments to players and coaches, as well as non-compliance with UEFA and domestic league regulations from 2009 to 2023. The club is also accused of refusing to cooperate with the investigation.
The hearing process began in September last year and concluded in December. Despite this, the commission's official decision has not yet been announced.
Stefan Borson, commenting on the situation for Football Insider, stated:
"If the decision is indeed announced on Monday — it won't be a big surprise. But it would be equally unsurprising if it is postponed until June. This is a very complex case with many details and a voluminous decision. It takes time to prepare."
According to Borson, the sooner the verdict is delivered, the better for the club — not only to minimize uncertainty within the team but also because it may indicate that Man City has managed to prove its case on the main points of the accusation.
"If the decision is delayed well into the summer — it could be a bad sign," the expert added.
He also reminded that proceedings of this scale are a lengthy process, and patience is now more important than ever:
"Everyone wants clarity, but sometimes it takes much longer than initially expected."
Thus, the fate of Manchester City in this protracted case may become clear in the coming days — or it may once again be postponed.
