The Mexico national team has quickly found a new candidate to replace Aguirre.
Details: Today it was announced that 47-year-old Spanish coach Rafa Márquez will officially take charge of the Mexico national team after the 2026 World Cup, as the current head coach Javier Aguirre will step down from his post.
Reports indicate that Aguirre will lead Mexico at the World Cup, but his departure is inevitable regardless of the team's performance at the tournament.
Currently, Rafa Márquez is working as Aguirre's assistant with the national team. Prior to that, he was the head coach of Barcelona B from 2022 to 2024.
Javier Aguirre took over as head coach of Mexico in 2024. He has managed the national team for 85 matches, recording 51 wins, 17 draws, and 17 defeats.
