Louey Ben Farhat explains why he turned down Tunisia’s call-up for the World Cup
The young Tunisian player is prioritising his recovery over the tournament.
Louey Ben Farhat’s attitude had angered Sabri Lamouchi. The Eagles of Carthage manager had expressed his dissatisfaction after the player turned down his call-up and the exchanges that followed.
However, Louey Ben Farhat has decided to break his silence. The Karlsruher striker says he is aware of the importance of representing the Eagles of Carthage. But he insists that his refusal should not be interpreted as a lack of interest in the Tunisian national team.
“This decision was very difficult for me to make. I have enormous respect for the national team, the coaching staff and everyone who works for Tunisian football. My decision in no way reflects a lack of respect towards them.”
Louey Ben Farhat explains that this decision is mainly linked to his physical condition following a long spell on the sidelines due to a broken foot that kept him out of action for four months this season. A situation that led him to prioritise his recovery before returning to full competition.
“This season, I was sidelined for four months due to a broken foot. After such a serious injury, taking part in a World Cup, with all the physical demands and preparation that entails, would have been a huge burden. At that point, I felt it was better to prioritise my recovery and make this decision in the interests of my fitness and my future.”
