French side Lille etched their name into European football history with a stunning comeback in the Europa League playoffs.
Details: After a 0-1 defeat at home in the first leg, Les Dogues managed to turn the tie around in the return match against Serbia’s Crvena Zvezda. The dramatic encounter went into extra time, where the French outfit finally broke their rivals’ resistance, claiming a 2-0 victory and booking their place in the next round of the competition.
According to StatsFoot, Lille became the first French club in the last 17 years to progress in the Europa League (formerly UEFA Cup) after losing the first leg at home. The last time this feat was achieved was by Marseille in the 2008/09 season, when the Provençal side knocked out Dutch club Twente in the round of 32, also overturning a disappointing home result.
Reminder: Former Lille player Eden Hazard gave a candid interview about life after retiring from football.
