Ex-Liverpool footballer John Arne Riise participated in a major charity event in his home country. The Norwegian took part in a treadmill challenge, raising over €21,000 for a good cause, Daily Mail reports.
The former athlete completed an incredible endurance feat, running a staggering 172 km (107 miles) on a treadmill in just 24 hours. While several other participants joined the challenge, most ran only specific segments. However, the 44-year-old Riise kept going for the full 24 hours—an astonishing achievement!
The event aimed to raise funds for a mental health charity, with Riise pushing himself to the absolute limit for a good cause.
“It's the toughest and most intense thing I've ever been through, physically and mentally. (The money raised) makes it worth it, even though it was incredibly tough at times,” Riise admitted.
Riise is a true Liverpool legend, having played for the Reds from 2001 to 2008. He was part of the historic Champions League-winning team in 2005, when Liverpool staged a miraculous comeback against AC Milan in Istanbul.
