The Norwegian national team has once again cemented its status as the powerhouse of winter sports, clinching the medal table at the 2026 Winter Olympic Games and setting not one, but two historic records.
The Scandinavian squad boasts 41 medals, including 18 golds. Their closest rivals, the USA, lagged significantly behind and couldn't mount a challenge for the top spot. This marks Norway's fourth consecutive and 11th overall victory in the Winter Olympics medal standings. The last time the Scandinavians surrendered the lead was back in Vancouver 2010—since then, their era of dominance has been unbroken.
The 2026 Games proved historic for Norway in terms of statistics as well. The previous record for gold medals stood at 16 (set at the 2022 Olympics), but in Italy, they raised the bar even higher with 18 top honors.
The record for total medals has also been updated. In 2018, the Norwegian team claimed 39 medals, which was considered the all-time best at the Winter Games. Now, that benchmark has been pushed to 41—a new standard for the entire world of winter sports.
