Josh Cavallo, a player for the Australian club Adelaide United and the first openly gay footballer, admitted on the FIFPRO channel's podcast Footballer's Unfiltered that he continues to receive threats daily due to his coming out, but also stated he has no regrets about it.
Cavallo shared that he continues to receive daily threats and death wishes since he came out as gay in 2021. The footballer admitted that the football world remains a highly toxic place, far from full acceptance and tolerance.
However, he stated that he absolutely does not regret his coming out; on the contrary, he only regrets not doing it sooner.
"I was tired of being hidden and tired of having to go around and hide from people and not live my authentic self," Cavallo said.
Since coming out, Cavallo has actively shared his life on social media, setting an example and giving hope to others forced to hide and fear because of their orientation.
