Australian track and field athlete Gout Gout has shattered the world junior record at the national junior championships.
Details: The Australian Junior Athletics Championships took place in Sydney. Eighteen-year-old Gout Gout had been preparing for this moment for a long time, aiming to set a new world record—and he did just that.
Gout crossed the finish line in the 200-meter sprint in 19.67 seconds, setting a new world record and improving the previous mark by 0.02 seconds. The record was previously held by American Erriyon Knighton.
It's worth noting that at age 18, Usain Bolt ran this distance noticeably slower: the legendary sprinter clocked 19.93 seconds in 2004.
With this victory, Gout has become the 16th fastest 200-meter runner in history. However, Usain Bolt still tops the all-time list with his iconic 19.19-second run.
