Estudiantes Officially Signs Fernando Muslera Through 2026

Uruguayan goalkeeper Fernando Muslera has officially joined Estudiantes de La Plata, signing an 18-month contract that runs until December 2026. As reported by DirecTV Sports, the former Galatasaray star becomes the first signing for head coach Eduardo Domínguez ahead of the new tournament.
The Argentine club confirmed the news on Tuesday with a photo of Muslera in the team's kit and a message on social media that read: “¡Vamo arriba! Fernando Muslera has signed with the club until December 2026 and is our newest signing.” The 38-year-old veteran returns to South America after 14 years in Europe, bringing a wealth of experience to La Plata.
In his first remarks after arriving in Argentina, Muslera addressed the speculation around Peñarol, the other club that pursued him. “Everything's fine with Peñarol, I'm happy,” he said, clarifying there was no bad blood. “The only two offers I seriously considered were from Peñarol and Estudiantes,” he added, stressing that his decision was based on a personal desire to be closer to home.

Muslera, who won the Copa América with Uruguay in 2011 and earned over 130 international caps, arrives with high expectations. For Estudiantes, his signing is a statement of intent. The club gains a seasoned, reliable presence in goal as it prepares to compete at the highest level domestically and potentially in continental tournaments.
After a successful career in Turkey with Galatasaray, Muslera now looks to write a new chapter in La Plata—one fueled by motivation, familiarity with top-level pressure, and a deep-rooted love for the game.
