Emotional Moment: Referee Facundo Tello Injury Halts DR Congo vs Jamaica Clash as Leopards Seal World Cup Spot
The FIFA World Cup qualifier between DR Congo and Jamaica in Guadalajara, Mexico, took an unexpected turn during extra time after centre referee Facundo Tello was forced off with an injury.
With DR Congo holding a narrow 1-0 lead in the 111th minute, the Argentine official suddenly showed signs of discomfort, clutching his calf and knee before collapsing on the pitch. Medical staff quickly attended to him as the match was temporarily paused.
After receiving treatment for a couple of minutes, Tello was unable to continue and had to leave the field. The fourth official, Dario Herrera, stepped in to take charge and ensure the game resumed smoothly.
Despite the disruption, DR Congo maintained their composure and held on to their lead until the final whistle, securing a crucial 1-0 victory over Jamaica.
The win confirms DR Congo’s qualification for the FIFA World Cup, where they will compete in Group K alongside Portugal, Uzbekistan, and Colombia.
