Domínguez Hails 2030 World Cup as “A Unique and Unrepeatable Celebration”

During the opening of FIFA’s 75th Ordinary Congress in Asunción, CONMEBOL president Alejandro Domínguez described the 2030 FIFA World Cup as “a unique and unrepeatable celebration.” The centenary edition of the tournament will be hosted by Spain, Portugal, and Morocco, with symbolic opening matches taking place in Argentina, Uruguay, and Paraguay.
Domínguez used the occasion to reflect on football’s global nature and historical resonance. “We are privileged to be the ones making this decision,” he said, referencing the significance of returning to the region that hosted the first World Cup in 1930. “Football does not belong to us—it belongs to the world and to everyone who lives and breathes the game.”
He called for a spirit of unity: “We must play this World Cup as a team so that it lives on in history.” The remarks came as part of a broader celebration of football’s past and future, emphasizing collaboration across continents.
The 2030 World Cup will feature a groundbreaking structure, with the majority of matches played in Europe and North Africa, while the tournament’s kickoff in South America will honor its origins with a powerful nod to the sport’s legacy.
