Copa del Rey. Atletico and Girona triumph and advance

In Spain, this weekend saw cup matches being played. On Saturday, January 6, as part of the Round of 16 of the Copa del Rey, Atletico and Girona contested away matches against Lugo and Elche, respectively.

Lugo - Atletico - 1:3

The "Mattress Makers" opened the scoring in just the second minute of the game. Angel Correa found the net after an assist from Galan. However, towards the end of the first half, the hosts equalized. Antonetti scored a goal in the 39th minute. The teams went into halftime level.

After the break, Atletico regained the lead. In the 66th minute, Memphis Depay added a goal to his tally, and eight minutes later, the Dutch forward completed a brace. As a result, Atletico defeated Lugo 3-1 and advanced to the Round of 16.

Elche - Girona - 0:2

A goal in each half helped the Catalan team progress. In the 39th minute, defender Daley Blind opened the scoring. Exactly 30 minutes later, Yan Couto doubled Girona's advantage. Michel's team maintained a comfortable 2-0 lead, taking a step closer to the quarter-finals.
