Al Sadd secured the Qatar Cup title on Saturday with a dramatic 4–3 penalty shootout win over rivals Al Duhail, following a 2–2 draw in regulation and extra time. As reported by Lance!, the victory marks their second trophy in less than a month, and the team now sets its sights on completing a domestic treble.
Brazilians Paulo Otavio, Claudinho, Giovani, and Guilherme played key roles in the triumph. Otavio, a standout left-back formerly with Wolfsburg, spoke after the win: “This one feels special. Al Duhail came in fired up after losing the league title to us, but our team’s experience and talent prevailed,” he said.
The Qatar Cup is Otavio’s fourth trophy with Al Sadd in two years, having already won back-to-back Qatar Stars League titles and the Emir of Qatar Cup last season. Now, the club is aiming to defend the Emir Cup to cap off a dominant campaign.
Voted the best in his position for two consecutive years, Otavio emphasized his focus on the present. “I’m happy here, playing at my best. I want to finish this season with one more trophy,” he said.
With its strong Brazilian core, Al Sadd continues to assert its dominance in Qatari football.
