The Burkina Faso national team now has a new coach. Following a call for applications, the Burkina Faso Football Federation has chosen a well-known figure in African football: Amir Abdou. The 54-year-old tactician, former coach of the Comoros and Mauritania, will now lead the Burkina Faso Etalons.
His appointment was made official by the Burkina Faso Football Federation on the night of Saturday 28 February 2026.
Following a call for applications and a rigorous review of the various profiles, Comorian coach Abdou Amir has been officially selected to take the reins of Burkina Faso's A team.
The new coach of Burkina Faso is an expert on African football. Holder of a UEFA Pro Licence, he made history with the Comoros national team, which he led to the round of 16 of the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations for the first time. This achievement put the 54-year-old coach in the spotlight.
Amir Abdou also took the reins of the Mauritania national team. His participation in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations with this team was marked by a tremendous performance against Algeria in the group stage. The Comorian tactician has also coached clubs, notably FC Nouadhibou, with whom he won the Mauritanian championship twice in 2020 and 2022. Before being appointed coach of Burkina Faso, he coached Hassania Agadir in the Moroccan first division.
