Can Georgia finally score? Northern Ireland vs Georgia prediction — 05.10.2026
Northern Ireland and Georgia will meet at Windsor Park in Belfast on Monday, October 5, in the fourth round of UEFA Nations League Group B2. Michael O’Neill’s side enter the game top of the section with seven points and a 4-0 goal difference, while Georgia sit bottom with one point and are still waiting for their first goal of the campaign.
Northern Ireland: three clean sheets and growing confidence
Northern Ireland could hardly have asked for a better start to their return to League B. They opened the campaign with a dramatic 1-0 victory in Tbilisi, followed it with a goalless home draw against Hungary and then produced their best result of the group so far, beating Ukraine 3-0.
Ciaron Brown scored twice against Ukraine, with Isaac Price adding the other goal. O’Neill’s team had much less possession but once again showed why they have become so uncomfortable to play against: the defensive structure remained compact, they competed well physically and were ruthless when their opportunities arrived.
Most importantly, Northern Ireland have not conceded in any of their first three Nations League matches. Pierce Charles has provided security in goal, while a young defensive unit has coped impressively despite the loss of Daniel Ballard. The Sunderland defender was injured during the first meeting with Georgia and subsequently returned to his club.
That setback has not destabilized the team. Ruairi McConville, Tom Atcheson, Ciaron Brown, Brodie Spencer and captain Trai Hume have all taken responsibility, while Shea Charles and Isaac Price give O’Neill energy and aggression in midfield.
Georgia: a new coach, but the same problem in attack
Georgia arrive in Belfast in a much more complicated position. The 1-0 home defeat to Northern Ireland in the opening round proved to be Willy Sagnol’s final match in charge, with Ramaz Svanadze subsequently appointed as the new head coach.
The managerial change has improved neither the results nor the attacking numbers so far. Georgia drew 0-0 with Ukraine in Svanadze’s first game before losing 1-0 away to Hungary. After three rounds, their record stands at zero wins, one draw, two defeats and, most significantly, zero goals scored.
That does not mean Georgia lack individual quality. Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, Georges Mikautadze and Giorgi Chakvetadze remain capable of creating danger against any opponent, while Giorgi Mamardashvili provides elite-level quality in goal. Against Hungary, Svanadze used Kvaratskhelia and Mikautadze together in attack with Chakvetadze operating behind them.
The problem has been turning possession and promising situations into goals. Georgia had their chances in the first meeting with Northern Ireland, including a penalty for Kvaratskhelia, but Pierce Charles made the save before Shea Charles struck the winner deep into stoppage time.

Belfast may produce another tight contest: Northern Ireland vs Georgia prediction
The first meeting showed that Georgia are capable of controlling stretches of the game and creating problems through Kvaratskhelia, but Northern Ireland proved far more efficient in the decisive moments. Since then, the contrast between the teams has become even clearer.
O’Neill’s side have continued to defend exceptionally well and arrive with confidence after the 3-0 victory over Ukraine. Georgia, meanwhile, are adapting to a new coach in the middle of a demanding international window and have still not found a way to turn their attacking talent into goals.
Georgia’s need for points should eventually force them to take more risks, but Northern Ireland do not need to turn this into an open game. Their compact defensive structure, home advantage and ability to survive without dominating possession should once again make clear chances difficult for the visitors.
The presence of Kvaratskhelia and Mikautadze always carries a threat, but the current numbers are impossible to ignore: Northern Ireland have three clean sheets from three, while Georgia have gone three matches without scoring. That makes another game in which at least one side fails to find the net the most logical scenario.
Prediction: Both teams to score — No.
